| Case Study - School Volunteer web application |
 |
Problem: A network of schools had various groups of students participating in extracurricular activities. The schools' volunteer administration was manually tracking all volunteer activities, volunteer committees, their schedules and students' record associated with these groups, assigned list of items that they had to bring on activity day, and so on. This process was not centrally monitored. |
Consequences: The process had lack of visibility, required excessive paperwork, involved printing, copying, and mailing costs, and had various other problems such as schedule slips and challenges of volunteer retention.
Solution: FSD Solutions was asked to propose a solution which could make it easier for school administration to centrally administer these activities. FSD Solutions had analyzed the problem, and developed a web based application using Microsoft ASP.NET and SQL Server technology. Once the system was developed; it has brought a lot of ease and saved time for both volunteers and their administrators. Volunteers were able to easily register themselves conveniently from anywhere at any time using Internet thus reducing paperwork and mundane task for administration. At the same time, administrators were able to centrally manage all activities with greater visibility, efficiency, and convenience.

| New Trend - Application Development in 2010 |
| This month, we chose application development trends that are expected to grow further in 2010.

Some of the features along with their description are as under:
| Features |
Description |
| Small and Cheap |
iPhone applications marketplace offers apps as cheap as 99 cents. When you add volume, the model becomes interesting and revenue generating. The demand of iPhone application development is growing.
|
| More Online less installation |
With popularity of Software-As-A-Service (SAAS) model, expect less installation on your computer hard drive and more and more software to reside on the World Wide Web.
|
| Worldwide Developers |
In addition to US and India, there are various other emerging markets and countries where developers (companies and freelancers) are providing application development services and collaborating with each other worldwide. The difference of native language, different time zones, and different locations do not slow them down.
|
| Agile |
Gone are the days when software were used to be designed by spending a lot of time, then programmed, then released. Now they start it, use it, change it, use it, change it again. Agile and Rapid Application Development is the way to go.
|
| Open Source |
Microsoft's collaboration with CodePlex, Google's release of Android code, and renaming of Google Gears to Gears suggests more and more open source application development will grow and lead the way of Web moving forward.
